Every parent would worry if their child has a fever. Fever is a rise in body temperature above normal. In children, normal body temperature ranges from 36 to 37.5 degrees Celsius. Many parents who do not understand, fever is not a disease but a symptom or sign. Symptoms are a sign that something unusual is happening in the body. Fever does not always mean something bad happens. How to respond when your child has a fever is:
1. Stay calm.
2. Watch for fever and other symptoms.
3. If your child has a fever, dress it up so that heat can escape. You can administer an antipyretic to reduce fever or give him a warm bath. It is generally inadvisable to give aspirin to children with fever.
4. If your child appears sick, or in case of doubt, it is always best to have it examined by a doctor.
5. One child under 2 months with fever should always be examined by a doctor.
6. Wash your hands frequently to reduce transmission of infections.
